Black Spruce, also known as bog spruce, is native to Canada and a member of the pine family. It is found widespread across Canada and well known for its ability to grow in poor soil conditions. It is a slow growing tree that reaches an average height of 15 to 50 feet tall with a straight trunk. Its growth rate varies greatly with the climate it is growing in. In swampy areas, it grows slowly with shallow roots and is susceptible to windthrow. Black spruce is used mainly for its lumber and is also a popular Christmas tree.
